Military experience credited toward state licences and certifications

You can apply your military experience toward state occupational licences and certifications instead of repeating training you already have. Licences covered include advanced emergency medical, armed security guard, bus driver, certified first responder, crane operator, emergency medical, home health aide, home nurse aide, licensed radiological technologist, personal care, security guard, tractor trailer operator and truck driver.

Contact a New York State Department of Labor veterans representative, or email ask.vets@labor.ny.gov, and ask how your military experience maps to the licence you want.

What you'll need

Your DD214 and documentation of the military training, duty positions and certifications you want counted.

Eligibility

  • You are a veteran or a transitioning service member
  • You have military training or experience relevant to a New York licence or certification
