New York State Lifetime Liberty Pass for Veterans and Surviving Family Members

New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation
Free lifetime pass with free entry and discounted camping, dockage and recreation fees

Eligible New York veterans and surviving family members get a free lifetime pass giving free vehicle entry to state historic sites and arboretums, discounted campsite and cabin rental, discounted transient marina dockage, and free swimming, tennis, cross-country skiing and greens fees at facilities run by State Parks and the Department of Environmental Conservation. You have to be present when the pass is used.

How to apply

Request the pass online at the New York State Parks Store Lifetime Liberty Pass webpage and upload your documentation. If you already have a New York DMV photo ID with the veteran designation, you can also just show it to park staff to get the discount.

What you'll need

A copy of one of the following: a New York DMV photo ID with veteran status designation, DD214, DD215, NGB Form 22, WD AGO 53, 55 or 53-55, NAVPERS 553, NAVMC 78PD, NAVCG553 or NA Form 13038. Surviving family members need a DD1300 report of casualty or a U.S. Department of Defense telegram death notification.

Eligibility

  • You are a New York resident
  • You are a veteran who served on active duty and received a discharge other than dishonorable, or who received a less than honorable discharge for reasons related to sexual orientation, gender identity, military sexual trauma, post-traumatic stress disorder or traumatic brain injury
  • If you are applying as a surviving family member, you are the surviving spouse, parent, stepparent, adoptive parent, child, stepchild or adopted child of a veteran killed in the line of duty in combat, in a military operation against a foreign force, while supporting allied forces in an armed conflict, in an international terrorist attack, or in a peacekeeping mission outside the U.S.
