New York State Operation Recognition High School Diplomas for Veterans

New York State Education Department, through local schools
High school diploma awarded

If you left high school before graduating to serve in the U.S. Armed Forces, New York will award you a high school diploma. The child or spouse of a deceased eligible veteran can apply for and accept a posthumous diploma on the veteran’s behalf.

How to apply

Take your official documentation to a New York state school that issues general or local diplomas. If you are in New York City, contact the New York State Education Department at adulted@nysed.gov instead. For help, call 518-474-8940 or email adulted@nysed.gov.

What you'll need

Your DD214, Form WD AGO 53-55 Enlisted Record and Report of Separation, or Honorable Discharge Certificate, confirming your dates of service and discharge status.

Eligibility

  • You are a New York resident
  • You served at least one day of active duty in the U.S. Armed Forces
  • You were discharged under honorable conditions
  • You left high school before graduating in order to serve
