The state veterans cemetery in Ovid gives veterans and their eligible family members a burial plot, opening and closing of the grave, a government-provided grave marker including installation, and perpetual care.

Contact the cemetery directly at 6632 State Rt. 96A, Ovid, NY 14521, phone 607-379-0197, fax 315-539-1943, to schedule a burial or ask about eligibility, and submit the burial application.

What you'll need

The veteran’s DD214 or other discharge paperwork, the death certificate, and a marriage certificate or dependent documentation for a family member burial.

Eligibility

  • You were discharged from active duty under conditions other than dishonorable, died while serving on active duty, served at least 20 years in the National Guard or Reserves and qualified for military retired pay or would have qualified but for death before age 60, or served in a reserve component and were activated for federal service other than active duty for training
  • If you are applying as a family member, you are the spouse or a dependent of an eligible veteran or service member, with dependent children limited to unmarried children under 21, under 23 if a full-time student at an approved institution, or a child who developed a lifelong disability before age 21
