How to apply

Contact the North Carolina Department of Revenue to have the outstanding state tax forgiven. A county veterans service officer can help you assemble the paperwork.

What you'll need

The death certificate or DD1300 report of casualty, and documentation that the death was caused by service in a combat zone.

Eligibility

  • You are the survivor or personal representative of a North Carolina resident service member
  • The service member was killed in a combat zone, or died from wounds, disease or injury received in a combat zone
  • The service member owed North Carolina state tax
