North Carolina Military Commercial Driver License (CDL) Waivers

North Carolina Division of Motor Vehicles (NCDMV)
Knowledge and skills tests waived, or the skills test alone waived

North Carolina waives commercial driver license testing based on your military driving experience. If you have worked in one of certain military occupational specialties in the past year, the even exchange option waives both the knowledge and the skills test. If you do not hold one of those specialties but have been licensed on a similar military vehicle for at least two years, the skills test alone is waived.

The Commercial Driver Unit calls you once your waiver is processed, and you then have 30 days to visit a driver license office to be issued the CDL. For questions call 919-861-3319.
