North Carolina National Guard Tuition Assistance Program (NCTAP)

North Carolina National Guard Education Services Office
Tuition reimbursement, varying by semester and subject to available funds

You can be reimbursed for tuition at an approved North Carolina school if you are a drilling member of the North Carolina National Guard. It covers an associate, bachelor or graduate degree, a graduate certificate, or vocational training, and you can use it before initial active duty training. Funding is limited and the amount varies from semester to semester.

How to apply

Apply during your school term’s enrollment window through the North Carolina National Guard tuition assistance page. Fall applications open 1 August to 30 August, spring 1 January to 30 January, summer term I 12 April to 10 May, and summer term II 1 June to 12 June. Nothing is accepted after a deadline. What you'll need

Proof that you are drilling and in good standing with your unit, your school enrollment and cost information, and confirmation that you have at least two years remaining on your Guard contract.

Eligibility

  • You are an actively drilling North Carolina National Guard service member in good standing with your unit
  • You are attending an approved certificate or degree program at an approved institution of higher education
  • You meet your school’s satisfactory academic progress requirements
  • You have two years remaining on your North Carolina National Guard contract after the last tuition funds are received
