North Carolina Residency Determination Service, with North Carolina colleges and universities
In-state tuition rate

You get the in-state tuition rate at North Carolina schools if you are using VA education benefits within three years of the service member’s discharge or retirement date, or if you are receiving the Marine Gunnery Sergeant John David Fry Scholarship.

How to apply

Tell your school’s veterans certifying official that you are using VA education benefits, and complete the residency determination at ncresidency.org.

What you'll need

Your VA certificate of eligibility, and documentation of the service member’s discharge or retirement date.

Eligibility

  • You are enrolled at a North Carolina college or university
  • You are using VA education benefits within three years of the service member’s discharge or retirement date, or you are receiving the Marine Gunnery Sergeant John David Fry Scholarship
