North Carolina State Veterans Cemetery Program

North Carolina Department of Military and Veterans Affairs (DMVA)
No cost burial for the veteran; a burial fee for a spouse or dependent

Four state veterans cemeteries provide burial for North Carolina veterans and their eligible family members: Western Carolina in Black Mountain, Coastal Carolina in Jacksonville, Sandhills in Spring Lake and Eastern Carolina in Goldsboro. A veteran’s burial plot, the opening and closing of the grave, a grave marker and its installation, and perpetual care are all free. A burial fee is charged for a spouse or dependent, and all other funeral costs fall to you, your family or the estate.
