Tuition and fees waived for up to 45 months or 10 semesters

Dependents of certain North Dakota veterans attend state supported schools free of tuition and fees. The waiver covers a bachelor’s degree or a certificate for up to 45 months or 10 semesters.

How to apply

Contact the North Dakota Department of Veterans Affairs through its online contact page or by calling 701-239-7165, and also contact the financial aid office at the school you plan to attend.

What you'll need

The veteran’s DD214 and VA rating or casualty documentation, proof of the veteran’s North Dakota residency, proof of your relationship to the veteran, and your school enrollment information.

Eligibility

  • You are the spouse, surviving spouse, child or stepchild of a North Dakota resident veteran
  • The veteran was killed in action, died of wounds or other service-connected causes, has a 100 percent service-connected disability rating from the VA, has an individual unemployability rating from the VA, died from service-connected disabilities, or was declared a prisoner of war or missing in action
  • You are attending a North Dakota state supported school
