North Dakota Income Tax Filing Extension for Service Members in a Combat Zone

North Dakota Office of State Tax Commissioner
180 day extension to file your state income tax return

You get the same extension to file your North Dakota income tax return that the IRS gives for service in a combat zone or in support of a contingency operation. That is 180 days from the day you redeploy, or from the day you are released from hospitalization for injuries you received in a combat zone.

How to apply

There is nothing to file in advance. File your North Dakota return within the extension period and keep your orders showing the combat zone or contingency operation service.

What you'll need

Your orders showing service in a combat zone or in support of a contingency operation, and hospital discharge paperwork if you are extending because of hospitalization.

Eligibility

  • You are filing a North Dakota income tax return
  • You are serving or served in a combat zone, or in support of a contingency operation
