Ohio Military and Veteran Special Vehicle License Plates

92 plate designs at no additional fee; up to two free plates for 100 percent disabled veterans

Ohio offers 92 distinctive military and veteran license plates for veterans, retired service members, serving members and family members. There is no extra fee for the plates themselves, and personalising one costs $50. If you have a 100 percent service-connected disability, or the VA helped pay for a specially adapted vehicle, you can get up to two of these plates free.

How to apply

Apply online at OPLATES.com or in person at a BMV Deputy Registrar License Agency, with the documentation that proves you qualify for the plate you want. Medal of Honor and Former Prisoner of War plates must be applied for by mail. For more information, call 844-644-6268.

What you'll need

Supporting documentation for the specific plate, which is usually your DD214, military ID, VA Benefit Summary Letter or award documentation.

  • You are registering a vehicle in Ohio
  • You qualify for one of Ohio’s military or veteran license plates and can document it
