Ohio Motorcycle Endorsement Test Waiver for Service Members

Ohio Bureau of Motor Vehicles (BMV), Ohio Department of Public Safety
Motorcycle knowledge test and/or skills test waived

If you completed a motorcycle safety course in another state, Ohio can waive the motorcycle knowledge test, the skills test, or both for a motorcycle license or endorsement. There are separate routes depending on whether you are physically in Ohio or stationed or deployed outside the state.

How to apply

Follow the Ohio Bureau of Motor Vehicles instructions for either the in-state or the out-of-state application. For more information, call 844-644-6268 or email mogen@dps.ohio.gov.

What you'll need

Your certificate of completion for the out-of-state motorcycle safety course, your military ID or orders, and your DD214 if you have separated.

Eligibility

  • You are serving on active duty, or you separated from the U.S. Armed Forces within the past six months
  • You successfully completed an out-of-state motorcycle safety course
  • You are applying for an Ohio motorcycle license or endorsement
