Ohio Safety Officers College Memorial Fund

100 percent of public college instructional and general fees, or $10,672 per year at an independent institution, or $8,000 per year for a certificate program

If you are the surviving spouse or child of a service member killed in the line of duty, this fund pays 100 percent of instructional and general fees at Ohio public colleges and universities, or $10,672 per academic year at an independent institution, for up to the equivalent of four academic years of undergraduate study. If you enrol in a certificate program instead, it pays $8,000 per academic year at public or private institutions for up to two certificate programs, within the same four-year equivalent limit.

How to apply

Contact the financial aid office of the Ohio college you plan to attend and give them the service member’s DD1300, Report of Casualty. For more information, call 614-752-9481.

What you'll need

A copy of the service member’s DD1300 Report of Casualty, and your marriage certificate or birth certificate showing your relationship.

Eligibility

  • You are a current Ohio resident
  • You are the surviving spouse or child of a service member who was serving on active duty and was killed in the line of duty during Operation Enduring Freedom, Operation Iraqi Freedom or in an officially designated combat zone
  • If you are the child of the service member, you are not eligible for the Ohio War Orphan and Severely Disabled Veterans’ Children Scholarship
