Ohio State Employment Veteran Hiring Preference

Ohio Department of Administrative Services, and the hiring state agency
20 percent added to passing civil service exam scores, or 15 percent for reserve component members

You get 20 percent added to a passing score on an Ohio civil service exam if you are a veteran, or 15 percent if you are currently serving in a reserve component and have completed initial entry-level training.

Claim the preference when you apply for Ohio civil service employment and submit your service documentation with your application.

What you'll need

Your DD214 showing 180 days or more of active duty and an honorable discharge, or proof of current good standing in a reserve component along with proof that you completed initial entry-level training.

Eligibility

  • You are an Ohio resident
  • You achieve a passing score on an Ohio civil service exam
  • You are a veteran honorably discharged from active duty or transferred to a reserve component after serving 180 days or more on active duty, or you are currently serving in good standing in a reserve component and have completed initial entry-level training
