Ohio Unemployment Insurance

Partial, short-term wage replacement

You can claim temporary financial assistance if you lose your job through no fault of your own. It replaces part of your lost wages while you look for other work and is not meant to be a permanent source of income.

How to apply

File online through the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services unemployment portal, or call 877-644-6562, 800-750-0750, or TTY 711, Monday to Friday 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. excluding holidays.

What you'll need

Your full legal name, date of birth, Social Security number and driver license or state ID number, your home address, phone number and email, the Social Security numbers and dates of birth of your spouse and children, the name, address, phone number, employment dates and reason for leaving for every employer in the last 18 months, your bank routing and account number or debit card number for direct deposit from a bank with a physical office in Ohio, your Alien Registration number and work authorisation expiry if you are not a U.S. citizen, your DD214 member copy 4 if you separated from the U.S. Armed Forces in the last 18 months, and your SF8 or SF50 if you worked for the federal government in the last 18 months.

Eligibility

  • You are unemployed through no fault of your own
  • You are able and available to work and are seeking other work
  • You meet Ohio’s wage and work history requirements
