Oregon Veterans Dependent Tuition Program

Full tuition waiver for four years of a bachelor’s degree or two years of a master’s degree

The child or spouse of a qualifying veteran gets a full tuition waiver at an Oregon public university or Oregon Health and Science University. The waiver covers the attempted credit hours equal to four years of full-time attendance for a bachelor’s degree, or two years of full-time attendance for a master’s degree. A child over 23 may get an age waiver for a master’s program if they apply within 12 months of finishing a bachelor’s degree.

Contact the Oregon Department of Veterans’ Affairs education benefits team at 503-580-9049 or ebg@odva.oregon.gov, and tell the school you plan to attend that you are claiming the waiver.

What you'll need

The veteran’s discharge paperwork and VA rating, Purple Heart citation or death documentation, and proof of your relationship to the veteran such as a birth certificate or marriage certificate.

Eligibility

  • You are the child, adopted child or stepchild aged 23 or younger, or the spouse or unremarried surviving spouse, of an eligible veteran
  • The veteran received an Honorable or General, Under Honorable Conditions discharge
  • The veteran received a Purple Heart in 2001 or later and you are their child, died while serving on active duty, has a 100 percent service-connected disability rating from the VA or a branch of the U.S. Armed Forces, or died as a result of a service-connected disability
  • You are pursuing a bachelor’s or master’s degree at an Oregon public university or Oregon Health and Science University
