Pennsylvania Disabled Veterans' Real Estate Tax Exemption

Full exemption from real estate tax on your principal home

You can have your home exempted from Pennsylvania real estate tax if you are an honorably discharged resident veteran with a 100 percent disability. An unremarried surviving spouse of an eligible veteran continues to receive the exemption.

How to apply

Apply through the County Director of Veterans Affairs in the county where you live, not through the state. For more information email the Pennsylvania Department of Military and Veterans Affairs at Ra-retx@pa.gov.

What you'll need

Your DD214 showing an honorable or under honorable conditions discharge and your qualifying wartime service or Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, your VA rating documentation, proof that you own and live in the home, and income and expense information to show financial need.

Eligibility

  • You are a Pennsylvania resident
  • You received an honorable or under honorable conditions discharge
  • You served during an established war service period, or you received an Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal
  • You have a 100 percent total and permanent service-connected disability rating from the VA, or you are blind, paralyzed or lost two or more limbs because of military service
  • You own the home solely or as an estate in entirety and occupy it as your principal home
  • You have a financial need, which is presumed if your gross annual income is $114,637 or less
  • If your gross annual income is more than $114,637, your allowable monthly expenses are more than your monthly household income
