Pennsylvania Military Family Relief Assistance Program (MFRAP)

Up to $5,000, based on proven financial need

Grants of up to $5,000 are available for a proven financial need, such as a sudden loss of income, property or assets tied to military service or an emergency, an emergency need for childcare you cannot afford, a disaster leaving you needing food or shelter, or the death or critical illness of a parent, spouse, sibling or child creating an immediate need for travel, lodging or subsistence. Losing your home or your job, or a disability or serious illness, can also qualify.

How to apply

Fax or mail the MFRAP application and the supporting documents listed on it to the Pennsylvania Department of Military and Veterans Affairs MFRAP, Building 9-26, Fort Indiantown Gap, Annville PA 17003-5002, fax 717-861-9084. For help call 800-547-2838 or email ra-pa-mfrap@pa.gov.

What you'll need

The completed MFRAP application and the documents listed on it, proof of your qualifying service, and documentation of the financial need. If you are serving outside the United States you also need a statement signed by the first Lieutenant Colonel in your chain of command saying military assistance is not available and why.

Eligibility

  • You are a Pennsylvania resident
  • You served 30 or more consecutive days on active duty in the U.S. Armed Forces, the Pennsylvania National Guard or the U.S. Armed Forces Reserve, you served 30 or more consecutive days on state active duty, you are a member in good standing of the Pennsylvania National Guard or the Reserves with a financial need tied to an active duty call up, you are a former member medically discharged for a line of duty service-connected disability with an emergency financial need tied to that service or disability, or you are the family member of an eligible service member
  • You can show a financial need directly related to your military service or an emergency
  • If you are claiming as a serving reserve component member, you apply within three years of completing the qualifying period of active duty
  • If you are claiming as a medically discharged former member, you apply within four years of completing the qualifying period of active duty
  • If you are serving outside the United States, you have a statement from the first Lieutenant Colonel in your chain of command confirming military assistance is not available
