Pennsylvania Postsecondary Educational Gratuity Program (PEGP)

Pennsylvania Higher Education Assistance Agency (PHEAA)
Waiver of tuition, fees and on-campus room and board remaining after all other grants

If your parent was a Pennsylvania National Guard member who died as a direct result of performing their official duties, this program waives tuition, fees and on-campus room and board at Pennsylvania public postsecondary institutions. The waiver only covers charges left on your account after all other grants, including federal, state and outside scholarships, have been applied.

How to apply

Mail a completed application, a copy of your birth certificate or adoption papers, and an admission letter from your school to the Pennsylvania Higher Education Assistance Agency, Postsecondary Educational Gratuity Program, State Grant and Special Programs, P.O. Box 8157, Harrisburg PA 17105-8157. For help call 800-692-7392 or email pegp@pheaa.org.

What you'll need

A completed PEGP application, your birth certificate or adoption papers, an admission letter from your school, and a completed Free Application for Federal Student Aid.

Eligibility

  • You are a Pennsylvania resident
  • You are the child by birth or adoption of a Pennsylvania National Guard service member who died after January 1, 1976 as a direct result of performing their official duties, or who was on federal or state active duty and died after September 11, 2001 as a direct result of performing their official duties
  • You are 25 years old or younger when you apply
  • You complete a Free Application for Federal Student Aid
  • You are enrolled full time at a Pennsylvania community college, state-owned institution or state-related institution pursuing an associate or bachelor’s degree
