Long term care at six state veterans homes

Pennsylvania runs six extended care facilities for veterans and their spouses, providing domiciliary care, memory care, personal care and skilled nursing care. They are the Delaware Valley Veterans’ Home in Philadelphia, Hollidaysburg Veterans’ Home in Hollidaysburg, Pennsylvania Soldiers’ and Sailors’ Home in Erie, Southeastern Veterans’ Center in Spring City, Gino J. Merli Veterans’ Center in Scranton, and Southwestern Veterans’ Center in Pittsburgh. Each offers furnished modern rooms, complete medical and pharmacy services, physical, occupational and speech therapy, 24 hour nursing care and security, recreation, a clinical dietician, social and religious services, barber and beauty services, and transportation.

How to apply

Complete the fillable application packet for admission, attach the documents listed on the admission checklist, and email them to RA-MVVA-HOMES@pa.gov, or mail them to the Pennsylvania Department of Military and Veterans Affairs, Bureau of Veterans’ Homes, Attn: Admission’s Office, Edward Martin Hall, Building S-0-47, Fort Indiantown Gap, Annville PA 17003-5002.

What you'll need

The completed admission application packet, your DD214 or other discharge paperwork showing a discharge under honorable conditions, proof of Pennsylvania residency when you entered service or proof you live here now, and a marriage certificate if you are applying as a spouse or surviving spouse.

Eligibility

  • You served in the U.S. Armed Forces or the Pennsylvania National Guard and were discharged under honorable conditions, or you are the spouse or surviving spouse of such a veteran
  • You were a Pennsylvania resident when you entered the U.S. Armed Forces, or you are a Pennsylvania resident now
