Pennsylvania Veterans Temporary Assistance

County Director of Veterans Affairs in your Pennsylvania county, with the Pennsylvania Department of Military and Veterans Affairs
Up to $1,600 in a twelve-month period

You can get up to $1,600 of temporary financial aid in a twelve-month period when an emergency leaves you without enough money for shelter and the necessities of living. It is open to Pennsylvania resident veterans and to unremarried surviving spouses. You can be receiving food stamps and still qualify.

How to apply

Contact the County Director of Veterans Affairs in the county where you live, not the state. You can also email Ra-vta@pa.gov.

What you'll need

A copy of your DD214 or other proof of service, or documentation of the death on active duty or the VA-certified service-connected disability, plus documentation of the emergency, your income and expenses, and what other assistance you are receiving.

Eligibility

  • You are a Pennsylvania resident
  • You served on active duty other than for training and received a discharge under honorable conditions, you are the unremarried surviving spouse of someone who died while serving on active duty, or you have a service-connected disability certified by the VA
  • Your financial circumstances temporarily leave you without enough money for shelter and necessities, because of a temporary loss of income from sickness, disability, unemployment or a disaster beyond your control, or a temporary increase in costs beyond your control
  • You are not receiving sufficient financial assistance from any state or federal agency
  • You can show that other funds and resources are not available to you and that your need is clear and immediate
