Recording and Storage of Illinois Veteran Service Records

Illinois Department of Veterans Affairs (IDVA)
Free permanent storage of your military records and help obtaining copies

The Illinois Department of Veterans Affairs keeps military records for many Illinois veterans and stores them permanently once they are located. If your records are not on file, an Illinois Veteran Service Office helps you request a certified copy from the National Personnel Records Center in St. Louis. They can also request duplicate military awards, get copies of service and medical treatment records, submit discharge upgrade requests, and request updates to your DD214. The department uses these records to confirm veterans preference for state employment, validate license plate requests, authenticate tax exemption certificates and furnish veteran burial certificates.
