Renewal of South Carolina Driver License Online or by Mail When Stationed Outside the State

South Carolina Department of Motor Vehicles (SCDMV)
Remote license renewal for $25 by mail, or online at no extra cost

If you are on active duty outside South Carolina, you and your dependents can renew your South Carolina driver license online or by mail instead of coming back to the state. The mail renewal fee is $25.

How to apply

Renew online through the SCDMV Online Transaction webpage. To renew by mail, send the SCDMV Application for Beginner’s Permit, Driver’s License, or ID Card with the address you want the license mailed to, a current color photograph from the top of your head to your shoulders with no face or head covering, orders showing continuous active duty outside South Carolina, and a $25 check made out to the SCDMV, to SCDMV, Alternative Media, PO Box 1498, Blythewood SC 29016-0035.

What you'll need

The completed application, a current color photograph, military orders showing continuous active duty outside South Carolina, and a $25 check. Dependents also have to meet the state vision test requirements.

Eligibility

  • You are an active duty service member stationed outside South Carolina, or the dependent of one
  • You hold a South Carolina driver license
  • If you renew by mail, you send the application, a current color photograph, orders showing continuous active duty outside South Carolina and a $25 check
  • If you are a dependent, you meet the state vision test requirements
