Rhode Island Bus Pass Program for Disabled Veterans

Free rides on fixed routes, or half fare off-peak, with a $25 card valid five years

You can ride Rhode Island Public Transit Authority fixed routes free or at half fare. The no-fare pass gives low-income veterans free rides on all fixed routes. The half-fare pass gives eligible disabled veterans half price fares during off-peak hours and full fare during peak hours. The Bus Pass ID Card costs $25 and is valid for five years, and you may also qualify for a personal care assistant to ride free.

Apply at the Kennedy Plaza Ticket Sales and Information Window, 1 Kennedy Plaza, Providence. For questions call 401-784-9500 extension 604.

What you'll need

A photo ID, a VA Benefit Summary Letter showing a disability rating of 70 percent or higher if you want a half-fare pass, and proof of income if you want a no-fare pass.

Eligibility

  • You are a Rhode Island veteran
  • You have a 70 percent or higher disability rating from the VA if you are applying for the half-fare pass, or your income is below 200 percent of the federal poverty level if you are applying for the no-fare pass
