Free Tuition for Surviving Spouse and Children of Deceased Rhode Island National Guard Service Members

Rhode Island pays the tuition at a state supported college or university for the surviving spouse or child of a Rhode Island National Guard service member who died in the line of duty. The help covers tuition only, and you can use it for up to four years.

Contact the financial aid office of the state supported college or university you plan to attend and ask about tuition for survivors of Rhode Island National Guard members.

What you'll need

Documentation that the service member died in the line of duty, proof of your relationship such as a marriage certificate or birth certificate, and your school enrollment information.

Eligibility

  • You are the surviving spouse or child of a Rhode Island National Guard service member who died in the line of duty
  • If you are a child of the service member, you are between 16 and 21 years old
  • You are enrolled at a Rhode Island state supported college or university
