Rhode Island Military Family Relief Fund

Rhode Island National Guard Family Assistance Center
Up to $5,000 per service member or immediate family member

You can get a one-time emergency grant of up to $5,000 per service member or immediate family member for expenses such as rent or mortgage, utilities, medical services, prescriptions, insurance or vehicle payments. The fund also pays casualty based grants to the families of service members who are injured, killed, declared missing in action or held as prisoners of war. Grants are meant for emergencies that one payment can reasonably resolve.

What you'll need

Proof of your qualifying service or DEERS enrollment, documentation of the emergency and your financial need, and casualty documentation if you are applying for a casualty based grant.

Eligibility

  • You are serving in the Rhode Island National Guard, are a U.S. Armed Forces Reserve service member assigned to a unit in Rhode Island, or are an active duty service member who is a legal resident of Rhode Island, or you are a family member of one of these service members and are enrolled in the Defense Enrollment Eligibility Reporting System
  • The service member has at least one year of satisfactory service
  • You have a documented financial need
  • If you are applying for a casualty based grant, the service member received the Purple Heart, received a non-combat injury, was killed in the line of duty, or is listed as missing in action or a prisoner of war
