You pay no adoption fee when you adopt a dog or cat from a public animal shelter in Rhode Island, as long as your driver’s license or state ID card carries the Veteran designation. The waiver is limited to one pet adoption every six months.

Eligibility

  • You have the Veteran designation on your Rhode Island driver’s license or ID card
  • You are adopting a dog or cat from a public animal shelter
  • You have not used the waiver in the past six months
