South Carolina Commercial Driver License Even Exchange Waiver for Military Personnel

Both the CDL knowledge and skills tests waived

If you hold one of the qualifying military driving specialties, South Carolina will waive both the knowledge and the skills tests for your commercial driver license.

How to apply

Send the completed SCDMV CDL Waiver Application for Military Personnel, including the certification signed by your commanding officer, plus a copy of your active duty or reserve component military ID or your discharge documents, to SCDMV, CDL Help Desk, PO Box 1498, Blythewood SC 29016-0028. You can also fax 803-896-2676 or email CDLHelpDesk@scdmv.net.

What you'll need

The waiver application with your commanding officer’s certification, and a copy of your military ID or your discharge documents (DD214, WD-AGO, DD256 or NGB22).

Eligibility

  • You hold a South Carolina driver license
  • You are still serving in the U.S. Armed Forces, or you were discharged within the last 12 months
  • You worked in one of the qualifying specialties: Army 88M, 92F or 14T, Air Force 2T1, 2F0 or 3E2, Marine Corps 3531, or Navy EO
  • You have not held more than one driver license other than a military license in the past two years, and you have not had a license suspended, revoked or cancelled in the past two years
  • You have no convictions for the disqualifying offenses listed on the application, no more than one conviction for a serious traffic violation, and no at-fault accident or accident-related traffic control violation
  • Your commanding officer certifies your application
