South Carolina M.J. "Dolly" Cooper State Veterans Cemetery

No cost burial for the veteran; $300 for an eligible spouse or child

This state veterans cemetery near Anderson provides burial for South Carolina veterans, their spouses and their children. It offers grave space, opening and closing of the grave, a grave liner, a grave marker, perpetual care, a columbarium and scattering garden for cremated remains, and in-ground burial of cremated remains. There is no cost for a veteran’s plot, grave liner, permanent marker or the opening and closing of the gravesite. Burial of an eligible spouse or child costs $300.

Complete the M.J. "Dolly" Cooper Veterans Cemetery Eligibility Pre-Certification Application to establish eligibility before there is a need. For more information call 864-332-8022.

What you'll need

Your DD214 or other discharge paperwork, proof of South Carolina residency, and a marriage certificate or dependent documentation for family members.

Eligibility

  • You were discharged from active duty under conditions other than dishonorable, died while serving on active duty, served at least 20 years in the National Guard or Reserves and are eligible for military retired pay, or were a reserve component member activated for federal service
  • You were a South Carolina resident when you entered the U.S. Armed Forces, at the time of your death or an eligible family member’s death, or for five years
  • Your spouse and dependent children qualify through you, with dependent children limited to unmarried children under 21, under 23 if a full-time student at an approved institution, or a child who developed a lifelong disability before age 21
