South Carolina offers 56 distinctive license plate designs honoring service members, veterans, retired service members and eligible family members. Each plate has its own eligibility and documentation requirements, listed on the application.

How to apply

Military plates are only processed by mail at SCDMV Headquarters. Mail the completed SCDMV Application for Military License Plate, your official military documentation, any other documents the application lists for that plate, and the applicable fees to SCDMV, Specialty Plates, PO Box 1498, Blythewood SC 29016-0038. If the plate offers handicap parking, also include the SCDMV Application for Placard and/or License Plate for People who have a Disability.

What you'll need

Official military documentation such as a DD214, NGB22, official orders or a VA-issued Veterans ID Card, plus whatever else the application lists for the plate you want, and the fee.

Eligibility

  • You are a South Carolina resident
  • You are a service member, veteran, retired service member or eligible family member
  • You can document your eligibility for the specific plate you are requesting
