South Carolina Military Family Relief Fund

South Carolina Department of Veterans’ Affairs (SCDVA)
$500 status based, $1,000 casualty based, or up to $2,000 needs based grant

This fund makes grants to the families of South Carolina National Guard members and South Carolina residents in the U.S. Armed Forces Reserves who were called to active duty, to help with food, housing, utilities, medical services and other costs that get hard because of military service. Status based grants are $500, casualty based grants are $1,000 and needs based grants are up to $2,000. You can get one grant per fiscal year and one grant per set of active duty orders.

Mail the SCMFRF application with the documentation it lists to South Carolina Department of Veterans’ Affairs, ATTN: SCMFRF Coordinator, 1205 Pendleton Street Ste. 369, Columbia SC 29201. For help call 803-734-0200.

What you'll need

The service member’s active duty orders showing the qualifying activation, proof of your relationship to them, and documentation of the financial need or the casualty, depending on which grant you are applying for.

Eligibility

  • You are the family member of a South Carolina National Guard service member, or of a South Carolina resident serving in the U.S. Armed Forces Reserves
  • The service member was called to active duty because of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks or a later operation determined by the President or the Governor of South Carolina
  • You have not already received a grant in this fiscal year or for this same set of active duty orders
  • If you are applying for a needs based grant, you can document the financial need
