South Dakota Hunting and Fishing Without a License for Resident Service Members Stationed Outside South Dakota

No licence needed for fishing or small game hunting while on leave

You do not need a South Dakota licence to fish or hunt small game while you are home on leave, if you are a resident on active duty stationed outside the state. You still need the federal migratory bird stamp and the migratory bird certification permit.

There is nothing to apply for. Carry your current orders and your military ID with you while you are hunting or fishing.

Your current orders assigning you outside South Dakota, and your military ID.

Eligibility

  • You are a South Dakota resident serving on active duty in the U.S. Armed Forces
  • You are stationed outside South Dakota
  • You carry your current orders and your military ID while hunting or fishing
