You can add a Veteran designation to the front of your South Dakota driver’s license or ID card as proof of your service.

How to apply

Apply at any South Dakota driver licensing office. If you do not have a discharge document to hand, a county or tribal veterans service officer can sign a certificate verifying your status.

What you'll need

The standard documents required for a driver’s license or ID card, plus one of the following: a DD214 showing an honorable discharge from active duty, a certificate signed by a county or tribal veterans service officer, a DD Form 2 (Retired), a DD Form 2A (Reserve Retired), or an NGB22.

Eligibility

  • You hold or are applying for a South Dakota driver’s license or ID card
  • You received an honorable discharge from the U.S. Armed Forces
