You are covered for $1,000 of life insurance at no cost simply by being a member of the Texas National Guard, and you can buy voluntary group cover from $10,000 up to $50,000 through the National Guard Association of Texas. Claims are paid within 24 hours, premiums stay level until you turn 65, there are no war or aviation exclusions, cover runs 24 hours a day all year, you can add your spouse and children after the first year, and you can keep the policy after you leave the Guard with automatic conversion to whole life without proving insurability. New recruits get $10,000 of cover free for their first year if they enroll within 30 days of joining.
