Massachusetts runs a veteran outreach effort to help veterans, current active and reserve component service members and their families enroll in the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, the food benefit formerly called Food Stamps. The effort includes a SNAP Veterans’ Guide, regional training on veteran food security, and resource fairs.

Apply for SNAP through the Massachusetts Department of Transitional Assistance, and use the SNAP Veterans’ Guide for help with the application.

What you'll need

Proof of identity, income and Massachusetts residency for the SNAP application, and your DD214 if you want veteran-specific help.

Eligibility

  • You are a veteran, a current active or reserve component service member, or the family member of one
  • You live in Massachusetts
  • You meet the income limits for the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program
