If you cannot come back to Iowa to renew your license in person and you do not qualify to renew online, you can get an extension that lasts until six months after you leave active duty. Your dependents can get an extension lasting up to five years past the license expiration date.

A copy of your active duty assignment orders. Dependents also need a copy of their dependent military ID card.
