Tennessee Day of Mourning for a Combat Related Death of a Service Member

Office of the Governor of Tennessee, with the Tennessee Department of Veterans Services
State-wide day of mourning with the state flag at half-staff over the capitol

Tennessee law requires the governor to proclaim a state-wide day of mourning when a Tennessee resident service member is killed in action or dies as a direct result of injuries from a service-connected, combat-related cause. The state flag flies at half-staff over the state capitol. It also covers Tennessee National Guard and resident U.S. Armed Forces Reserve members whose unit was called to active duty and stationed outside the United States during hostilities.
