Tennessee Helping Heroes Education Grant for Veterans

Tennessee Student Assistance Corporation
$1,000 per semester at 12 or more hours, $500 per semester at 6 to 11 hours, for up to eight full semesters

You can get a $1,000 grant per semester if you enroll in 12 or more semester hours, or $500 per semester for 6 to 11 semester hours. Fewer than six hours does not qualify. Grants are paid at the end of the semester and are awarded first-come, first-served. You can receive grants for eight full semesters, where 6 to 11 hours counts as a half semester, or until you earn a bachelor’s degree, whichever comes first.

How to apply

Apply each academic year through the Tennessee Student Assistance Corporation online application, then mail or fax your DD214 to the Tennessee Student Assistance Corporation, 312 Rosa Parks Boulevard, 9th Floor, Nashville TN 37243, fax 615-741-6101.

What you'll need

Your DD214, mailed or faxed to the Tennessee Student Assistance Corporation, and documentation of your qualifying campaign medal and Tennessee residency.

Eligibility

  • You are a current service member or an honorably discharged veteran who serves or served on active duty in an active or reserve component of the U.S. Armed Forces
  • You have been a Tennessee resident for one year before applying
  • You were awarded the Iraq Campaign Medal, the Afghanistan Campaign Medal or the Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal on or after September 11, 2001
  • You are enrolled at a participating two-year or four-year postsecondary institution and have not earned a bachelor’s degree
  • You are not in default on a federal or state education loan, do not owe a refund on a federal or state student financial aid program, comply with federal drug-free rules for receiving financial assistance, and are not incarcerated
