Tennessee Property Tax Relief for Disabled Veterans

Local Tennessee county trustee, or your city collecting official if the property is inside city limits
Tax relief calculated on up to $175,000 of your home’s market value

You can have the tax on part of your home’s value rebated or exempted if you have certain service-connected disabilities. Relief is calculated on a maximum market value of $175,000. You have to own the home and use it as your primary residence.

How to apply

Apply through your local county trustee, or through your city collecting official if the property is inside city limits. The state does not take applications directly, so ask that office for the forms and for the filing deadline in your county.

What you'll need

Your DD214 or other discharge paperwork showing a discharge other than dishonorable, a VA letter documenting your qualifying disability, and proof that you own the home and live in it as your primary residence.

Eligibility

  • You own the home and use it as your primary residence
  • You served in the U.S. Armed Forces and received a discharge other than dishonorable
  • You have a VA disability rating for paraplegia, for permanent paralysis of both legs and the lower part of the body from traumatic injury or disease to the spinal cord or brain, for loss or loss of use of two or more limbs, or for legal blindness, or you have a total and permanent disability, or you have a 100 percent total and permanent disability rating because you were a prisoner of war
