You get up to 26 weeks of unpaid, job-protected leave in a 12-month period to care for a service member with a serious injury or illness, if you are a Tennessee state employee and their spouse, child, parent or next of kin. You have to use your accrued annual, sick or compensatory leave before you go into unpaid status. The rules are in section 6.07 of the state attendance and leave manual.
Request military caregiver leave from your agency’s human resources office and give them the medical documentation for the service member.
