You can receive the state Purple Heart Medal if you were inducted into federal service from the Texas National Guard after September 11, 2001 and meet the criteria for the federal Purple Heart Medal, or if you were killed or wounded at Fort Hood on November 5, 2009.

How to apply

Have your chain of command or a sponsor submit the Texas Military Department Recommendation for Award form with your federal Purple Heart documentation or your Fort Hood casualty documentation.

What you'll need

Your federal Purple Heart orders or citation, or documentation that you were killed or wounded at Fort Hood on November 5, 2009, plus the completed recommendation form.

Eligibility

  • You were inducted into federal service from the Texas National Guard after September 11, 2001 and meet the criteria for the federal Purple Heart Medal, or you were killed or wounded at Fort Hood on November 5, 2009
