Up to 60 months of active duty service credit

You can buy up to 60 months of active duty service as service credit toward your State of Texas retirement, once your first retirement contribution has posted with the Employees Retirement System of Texas. Purchased military credit cannot be used toward retirement until you have five years of Employees Retirement System service credit.

How to apply

Submit the Employees Retirement System online service purchase request for active employees, then send your discharge paperwork by email to erscustomer.service@ers.texas.gov, by fax to 512-867-7438, by mail to PO Box 13207, Austin TX 78711-3207, or in person to 200 E 18th St, Austin TX 78701. What you'll need

A copy of your DD214 or NGB22, and your Employees Retirement System membership details.

Eligibility

You are a State of Texas employee and a member of the Employees Retirement System of Texas
You have had your first retirement contribution post to the Employees Retirement System
You served on active duty in the U.S. Armed Forces and received a discharge other than dishonorable
You are not eligible for military retired pay
