You can get free legal help from the veterans clinic at the University of South Carolina School of Law. The clinic takes a limited number of veterans appealing recent or older VA benefit denials involving disability compensation, pension, dependency and indemnity compensation, GI Bill benefits, healthcare access, character of discharge and overpayments. When it has capacity it also takes a limited number of family law cases and other civil matters.

What you'll need

Your VA decision letter or other paperwork for the matter you want help with, and your DD214.

Eligibility

  • You are a veteran
  • You are appealing a VA benefit denial, or you have a family law or other civil matter the clinic has capacity to take
  • You submit the clinic’s intake form
