Utah Gold Star License Plate

If you are a family member of a service member who was killed while serving, and you received the Gold Star Lapel Button from the Department of Defense, you can get a Gold Star licence plate. It can be personalized. Eligible family members are the surviving spouse, parents, stepparents, adoptive and foster parents in loco parentis, siblings, halfsiblings and stepsiblings, and children, stepchildren and adopted children.

How to apply

Apply at a Utah Division of Motor Vehicles office, online through the Utah Motor Vehicle Portal, or by mail, with your Gold Star documentation.

What you'll need

One of the following: a document showing the Department of Defense classification of the death, a report of casualty, a Department of Defense telegram notifying next of kin, or other documentation showing you received the Gold Star Lapel Button.

Eligibility

  • You are registering a vehicle in Utah
  • You are a recipient of the Gold Star Lapel Button issued by the Department of Defense
  • You are the surviving spouse, parent, stepparent, adoptive or foster parent, sibling, halfsibling, stepsibling, child, stepchild or adopted child of a service member who was killed while serving in the U.S. Armed Forces
