Utah State Employment Veterans Hiring Preference

Utah Division of Human Resource Management
5 points or 5 percent, or 10 points or 10 percent for a disability or Purple Heart

When you apply for initial employment with Utah state government, points or percentage points are added to your passing score on the exam, rating or ranking system used for hiring, whichever is greater. Veterans get 5 points or 5 percent of the total possible score. Veterans with a disability and Purple Heart recipients get 10 points or 10 percent. A spouse or surviving spouse gets the same amount the qualifying veteran is or would have been eligible for.
