Non-competitive hiring with a six-month on-the-job examination period

You can opt in to be hired into designated career-service positions with the Utah state government through a six-month on-the-job examination period instead of a competitive hiring process. Hiring officials can interview and hire you separately from the other candidates.

How to apply

Opt in to the program when you apply for Utah state positions through the state jobs site, and attach a copy of your DD214.

What you'll need

A copy of your DD214. Add your VA or service disability rating decision or Purple Heart documentation if you are qualifying on those grounds.

Eligibility

  • You are applying for a designated Utah state career-service position
  • You served on active duty for 180 consecutive days or more and received an honorable discharge, or you incurred a service-connected disability and were discharged before completing 180 days, or you are a reserve component service member or former service member who received an honorable discharge, or you were awarded a disability rating by the VA or a branch of the U.S. Armed Forces, or you are a Purple Heart recipient, or you retired from the U.S. Armed Forces
  • You provide a copy of your DD214
