Long-term nursing and specialist care at four state veterans homes

Utah runs four veterans homes providing long-term care for veterans and eligible family members: the William E. Christoffersen home in Salt Lake City, the George E. Wahlen home in Ogden, the Mervyn Sharpe Bennion Central Utah home in Payson, and the Southern Utah home in Ivins. They offer short-term rehabilitation, physical, occupational and speech therapy, skilled nursing care, memory care, post-stroke rehabilitation and pain management, with respite care at Salt Lake City and Payson and hospice care at Ogden.

Contact the Utah veterans home you are interested in directly to ask about admission. Salt Lake City is 801-584-1900, Ogden is 801-334-4300, Payson is 801-465-5400 and Ivins is 435-634-5220.

What you'll need

Your DD214 or discharge paperwork, documentation of any service-connected injury or disability, proof of Utah residency, and a medical assessment showing you need nursing home care.

Eligibility

  • You are a Utah resident
  • You require nursing home care
  • You served on active duty for more than 180 consecutive days, or served in a reserve component of the U.S. Armed Forces, or have a service-connected injury or disability regardless of whether you completed 180 days of active duty, and you received an honorable discharge, or you are the spouse or surviving spouse of an eligible veteran
