Vermont Armed Services Scholarship

Vermont Student Assistance Corporation
Up to 18 credit hours per semester, to a maximum of 130 credits

You can get educational assistance if you are the child, stepchild or surviving spouse of a service member who died on active or inactive duty. The scholarship covers up to 18 credit hours per semester and a maximum of 130 credits at a Vermont university, college, post-secondary institution or technical institute, leading to a certificate or a degree other than a postgraduate degree. Any Pell Grant you receive is deducted from the amount.

Complete the Vermont Student Assistance Corporation assisted online scholarship application.

What you'll need

The service member’s casualty documentation and service records, proof of your relationship to them, proof of Vermont residency or Vermont-based unit assignment where it applies, and your school enrollment information.

Eligibility

  • You are the child, stepchild or surviving spouse of the service member
  • The service member was a Vermont National Guard service member killed after 1955 or who died after January 1, 2001 while on active or inactive duty, a Vermont resident Reserve service member who died after January 1, 2001 while on active or inactive duty, or an active duty service member who died after January 1, 2001 and was at the time a Vermont resident, a nonresident in the Vermont National Guard mobilized to active duty, or a nonresident Reserve member in a Vermont-based unit mobilized to active duty
  • You are enrolled at a Vermont university, college, post-secondary institution or technical institute in a certificate or non-postgraduate degree program
