If your Vermont Homestead Declaration was late or wrong because of your active duty service, you may qualify for a 180-day abatement. Your town can abate all or part of your property tax.

Contact the town clerk in the town where your property is located and ask for the instructions to request this abatement. The decision is the municipality’s, not the state’s.

Your orders showing the active duty service that caused the late or incorrect Homestead Declaration.

Eligibility

  • You are a Vermont resident service member
  • You own a Vermont homestead
  • Your Vermont Homestead Declaration was late or incorrect because of your active duty service in the U.S. Armed Forces
